Assignment 1: Peer Pressure and Crime

Assignment 1: Discussion—Peer Pressure and Crime
One afternoon at work, Natalie received a phone call from her daughter’s teacher. It seemed that Brandi had got
into trouble, and Natalie would need to meet with Brandi’s teacher and the school principal. Natalie could not
imagine what the trouble could be. Brandi was a straight-A student, played soccer, and was part of the school
band. She also helped out with chores at home. On the way to the school, Natalie decided she would not jump to
conclusions but would hear Brandi’s side of the story. Then, she would let Brandi have a piece of her mind!
At school, Natalie met the school principal; Brandi’s teacher; and a crying, red-eyed Brandi. Brandi and two other
girls had stolen a pack of cigarettes from a teacher’s purse and were caught smoking in the woods behind the
school. Worse, one of the other girls had stolen the teacher’s prescription medication, though Brandi said she did
not know anything about that. The principal and teacher said that this was a serious breach of trust and was
against school policy. They knew Brandi and were “shocked” that she was involved in this activity. In private
consultation with Natalie, they said that Brandi was involved with the wrong crowd, but there was still time to
intervene before she developed a pattern of bad behavior.
Natalie left the meeting angry with Brandi, but also feeling guilty and responsible. She had been working extra
hours and was often busy with her schoolwork. Perhaps she had neglected Brandi or missed important warning signs.
She would ground Brandi, but more importantly, she would pay much closer attention to whom she befriended and
where she went. Natalie decided she would establish a schedule where she would help the girls’ do their homework.
Natalie felt tired. After all the years of guidance and parenting, how could “two stupid tweens” undo all her hard
work? She felt she had worked hard teaching Brandi and Jenny how to make good decisions and to know right from
wrong. She worried what the next ten years would bring. She pondered the possibilities of other peer influences,
alcohol, drugs, and boys.

Be sure to support your responses using the selected resources.
Write your initial response in 4–6 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

One way informatics can be especially valuable is in capturing data to inspire improvements and quality change in practice. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) collects data related to adverse events and safety concerns. If you are working within a practice setting to implement a new electronic health record (EHR) system, this is just one of the many considerations your team would need to plan for during the rollout process.
In a paper of 1,250-1,500 words, address the following questions related to the advanced registered nurse's role during this type of scenario:
What key information would be needed in the database that would allow you to track opportunities for care improvement?
What role does informatics play in the ability to capture this data?
Which systems and staff members would need to be involved in the design and implementation process and team?
What professional, ethical, and regulatory standards must be incorporated into the design and implementation of the system?
How would the EHR team ensure that all order sets are part of the new record?
How would you communicate the changes, including any kind of transition plan?
What measures and steps would you take to evaluate the success of the EHR implementation from a staff, setting, and patient perspective?
What leadership skills and theories would facilitate collaboration with the interprofessional team and provide evidence-based, patient-centered care?
You are required to cite five to 10 sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.

As PC Holroyd was investigating a theft, during which a number of watches were stolen, he saw David leaving the Three Kings public house. PC Holroyd knew David and was aware of his previous convictions for theft. PC Holroyd stopped David and asked him what he knew about the theft and the watches. David said he knew nothing about any theft or any watches.
PC Holroyd told David that he did not believe him and informed David that he was going to search him to check for the stolen watches. David told PC Holroyd that he objected to being searched, and that there was no reason for him to be searched. Despite David's objection, PC Holroyd searched David, who continued verbally to object to being searched, but offered no physical resistance.
The search revealed no stolen items. PC Holroyd told David that he still did not believe that he knew nothing about the theft so he arrested David and took him to the police station. On the journey PC Holroyd continued to question David about the thefts.
David was detained in the police station for 14 hours, during which time he made a number of requests to telephone a solicitor, all of which were refused. He also made a number of requests to telephone his wife because he wanted to let her know that he was safe. These also refused.
During his detention, David was questioned for 8 hours without a break, during which time he was given no refreshments. David eventually admitted to having stolen the watches after he was promised he would be able to telephone his wife and be released on bail if he confessed. David was charged with theft and released on police bail.
David now denies having stolen the watches.
Advise David on the legality of the actions of the police and on the admissibility of the confession at any subsequent trial.

The (fictitious) Electric Cars Act 2010

1) The (fictitious) Electric Cars Act 2010, provides as follows:
S1(1) The Minister for Transport may make grants to any business he thinks fit which produce products related to the construction and marketing of electric cars,
(2) The grant is to help reduce the costs of manufacturing and/or selling electric cars in the UK.
(3) Grants must not exceed £50,000 and shall not be less than £5,000.
The Minister has developed a policy, which is published on the website and in promotional literature, that she will, ‘only consider grants to businesses that have demonstrated a long term commitment to developing products aimed at reducing the cost of constructing and manufacturing electric cars, and have demonstrated a good environmental record, which is the aim and objective of the Electric Cars Act 2010’.
The Minister has an annual budget of £5m to use on such grants Car Turbine ltd is a business that has been developing electric cars for over 10 years for the UK domestic market.
It has an excellent reputation within the car industry of producing efficient electric cars. However, as a small company it needs a grant to improve the marketing department in order to meet the growing UK demand for electric cars. The grant is to be used towards developing a new marketing strategy, and train a new marketing team to increase UK sales. By improving the marketing and thereby increase sales, the company believes it will be able to reduce the production costs and increase the efficiency of electric cars, through the added research and development it will be able to afford.
Being confident that the company meets the criteria for a grant they contacted the Ministry about applying for a grant. They were told there should not be any problems with an application which was likely to be favourably considered. However, after their application was submitted they received a letter stating, ‘Your application will not be considered’. No reasons for this were given.
AB Motors plc, a multinational company with a poor environmental record and who have so far refused to consider developing electric cars, was successful in its application for a grant ‘to a develop a new electric car with global potential’, a brand new enterprise for the company. The company has no experience of the electric car industry but now wishes to break into the market as it see a short term opportunity to make money quickly and develop its international reputation and sales.
The Ministry for the Environment recently stated on its web site that ‘only businesses who were members of ‘The London Car Development Group’, a large lobby group for car manufacturers of which AB Motors plc is a member, would be considered for grants.
Advise Car Turbine ltd, who is not a member of ‘The UK London Car Development Group’, and wishes to challenge the refusal of their application and the making of a grant to AB Motors plc.

Telecommuting, remote work, or telework is a work arrangement in which employees do not commute to a central place of work

Telecommuting, remote work, or telework is a work arrangement in which employees do not commute to a central place of work. These terms were coined by Jack Nilles in 1973 (JALA International). A person who telecommutes is known as a "telecommuter," "teleworker," and sometimes as a "home-sourced" employee. Many telecommuters work from home, while others, sometimes called "nomad workers" use mobile telecommunications technology to work from coffee shops or other locations. According to a Reuters poll, approximately "one in five workers around the globe, particularly employees in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, telecommute frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home everyday" (Reaney, 2012).
In February, 2013, Yahoo CEO, Marissa Mayer, discontinued Yahoo's telecommuting program, sparking a national debate. For this activity, perform an Internet search for Policies and Procedures for Teleworking. Review the policies from several different companies and organizations, and then enter this forum and discuss the following: Advantages and benefits associated with telework from the perspective of both workers and companies/organizations.
What are some of the disadvantages and concerns regarding telework? Again, include both the worker and organization perspectives.
What are the main points? How are they alike? How do they differ?

evaluate your ability to determine the impact that schedule management has on project success, including meeting the budget and keeping the customer happy

evaluate your ability to determine the impact that schedule management has on project success, including meeting the budget and keeping the customer happy. The purpose of this work is to learn Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts, which provide the project team with updated information regarding the health of the project. In this piece of work, you will learn the importance of managing the project to the schedule, budget, and scope. As the project manager, you will encounter many situations where scope is added, and it is imperative that you establish a change management plan. When time is the issue, two schedule compression techniques can be used: fast-tracking or crashing. To reduce the number of changes on the project, subject matter experts (SMEs) should provide the schedule and cost estimates. Working with the team, the project manager is committed to delivering the work on time, within budget, and to the customer’s satisfaction. However, the reality is that most projects will run overbudget and will fall behind-schedule. It is also common for the customer to be dissatisfied at some point during the project. Please note that the goal is to create a schedule management plan and cost management plan that guide the project team. By their very nature, plans are forward-looking, which means they help meet the goals and objectives of the project. It is imperative these plans are as accurate as possible, and thereby minimizing
the number of changes down the road. For this piece of work, please provide comprehensive responses to the following questions:
(a) By using an example, explain the type of project performance information that is useful to the team when determine if the cost, schedule, and scope baselines are on target.
(b) Discuss the process by which changes to the project scope are managed. Why is it important to have a formal process?
(c) Explain the following EVM results: Project A (CV = 400, SV = -700); Project B (CPI = 1.30, SPI = 0.74); Project C (CV = -850, SV = -450); Project D (CPI = 0.34, SPI = 0.18); Project E (CPI = 1.0, SPI = 1.0). In each situation, provide a plan of corrective action to the project manager, if any is recommended.
(d) By using an example, explain why the project manager might place more emphasis on the schedule over the budget. In other words, how does schedule drive costs?

describes the impact of socioeconomic status on parenting style and the socialization of children. Berns defines four levels of "class" and describes characteristics of each. Yet, further reading implies that the concept—and reality—of social class may be more complex than the author's presentation.
Your role as a student is not only to read for information, but also to read critically as well. Review the "Class Descriptions" and "Effects of Class" sections of the course text (pages 107-109), paying close attention to the values and behaviors ascribed to each class and especially the "lower class" and the "underclass." Then, review the "Class Matters: Shadowy Lines That Still Divide" article, which discusses modern views of social class in the United States.
Next, consider the following:
What you know about class in America today
Your experiences related to class
The differences between the presentation of class in America today in the New York Times article and the description of class in the course text
Your thoughts about those differences
How children may be affected by class and by people's attitudes and beliefs related to class
How the information presented in your text might have a negative affect on teachers' perceptions of children and their families

You have $100,000 to invest in 4 stocks. Pick each stock from a different sector (for example, technology, energy, consumer products, automotive).
Prepare the following using Excel. Make sure that your spreadsheets are well formatted, clear and understandable.
Feel free
1) Identify the expected returns using Yahoo Finance. Look at current stock price, expected stock price in one year and the annual dividend. The expected stock price in one year less the current stock price plus the annual dividend gives you the return on your investment (expected appreciation in stock price plus the annual dividend you received). Divide this by the initial investment to get the return on your investment.
2) Once you have the expected return for each stock, identify the overall expected return. This is the return of all stocks weighted by the portion they constitute of your total investment. See slide 13-12 (from Chapter 13).
3) Develop the expected return for your portfolio of stocks using the Capital Asset Pricing Model. See slide 13-41. Assume the risk free rate is 2.6% (approximate US Treasury 10 yr bill rate). Assume the market risk premium is 6.7% (long term average stock market return, including dividends). Because of this, you do not need to add in the dividend yield of your stocks, unlike what I said in class. Calculate the average return for your portfolio of stocks. Compare the returns for each stock and the overall portfolio to what you calculated in 1) above.
4) Are there any reasons why one set of values may be different from the other? If the expected returns from 1) above are higher than those calculated in 3), it may be due to recent favorable conditions for the stack which are resulting in strong estimates for the stock price one year from now. See if you can find any reasons for possible differences.

International companies need to decide how much to adapt their product and marketing strategies to local conditions

International companies need to decide how much to adapt their product and marketing strategies to local conditions. At one extreme, there are supporters of "global standardization" - complete consistency of products and communications across countries. At the other extreme we have "global adaptation" - which says that everything (product, price, communications, etc) should be adapted to local conditions.
Have a look at a few companies applying a global marketing strategy quite successfully  - article here.
The "right" answer almost always involves finding a balance between extremes, but let's look at the factors that might favor global standardization or adaptation. What are the advantages/disadvantages of global standardization?

The Oracle Server may be used to test and compile the SQL Queries developed for this assignment. Your instructor will provide you with login credentials to a Strayer University maintained Oracle server. A multinational tour operator agency has gained new business growth in the North American market through the use of social media. Its operation has expanded by 50% within six months and the agency requires an enhanced data management strategy to sustain their business operations. Their existing data repository for its reservation processing system is limited in business intelligence and reporting functionalities. The tour operator seeks a database management specialist to assist them in leveraging their data sources to enable them to forecast and project tour sales appropriately.
Imagine that you have been hired to fulfill their need of enhancing the data repository for their current reservation processing system. Upon reviewing the system, you find that the data structure holds redundant data and that this structure lacks normalization. The database has the following characteristics:Click Here For More Details on How to Work on this Paper......

A table that stores all the salespersons. The table holds their employee id, first name, last name and “Tours sold” field. The “Tours sold” field is updated manually.
A table that stores tour customer data and tours sold. The table holds customer name, address, city, state, zip code, tour(s) selected, number of persons in tour, and total amount paid. The current structure will show the customer more than once, if the customer books multiple tours.
A tour table that is used as a tour rate sheet which holds the tours offered and the cost per person. Tour rates vary every three (3) months depending on the tourist season.
Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you propose an enhanced database management strategy. Your proposal should include the following:

Describe each step of the process that will enable you to have a 2nd Normal Form data structure.
b. Create naming conventions for each entity and attributes.
c. Conclude your data model design with an Entity Relationship Model (ERM) that will visually represent the relationships between the tables. You may make use of graphical tools with which you are familiar. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
2. Construct a query that can be used on a report for determining how many days the customer’s invoice will require payment if total amount due is within 45 days. Provide a copy of your working code as part of the paper.
3. Using the salesperson table described in the summary above, complete the following:
a. Construct a trigger that will increase the field that holds the total number of tours sold per salesperson by an increment of one (1).
b. Create a query that can produce results that show the quantity of customers each salesperson has sold tours to.
4. Support the reasoning behind using stored procedures within the database as an optimization process for the database transactions.

Competency-based education uses the competencies to inform the logistics of a professional psychology program and the sequence of training that takes the student from a novice to a competent professional. When you evaluate your program of study, you should recognize the influence the competencies have on the program's design. These competencies include, but are not limited to relationship, assessment, intervention, diversity, research/evaluation, management/supervision, and consultation/education (NCSPP, 2007). Professional psychology programs are evaluated using the Development Achievement Levels (DALs) specified by the National Council of Schools and Programs in Professional Psychology (NCSPP). The DALs of the NCSPP identify the skills, knowledge, and attitudes within each competency. In this Application you evaluate the Walden professional psychology program and curriculum, identifying the competencies using the DALs of the NCSPP.
