The goal of health promotion and education is to help prevent disease in patients.

The goal of health promotion and education is to help prevent disease in patients. However, this is not always successful, and disease it not always preventable. With disease, early detection is ideal, often making screening procedures a routine part of clinical care. Unfortunately, many patients do not utilize these health services. This can be attributed to lack of awareness or access to care, financial concerns, or even levels of comfort with health care providers. In your role as the advanced practice nurse, you must be aware of potential obstacles for patients and implement strategies to ensure patients receive necessary screenings. Although a variety of screening procedures are recommended for women at various stages of life, not all screenings are appropriate for all patients. Understanding the strengths and limitations of each screening, as well as current guidelines for use is essential to effectively facilitate patient care. For this Discussion, the course Instructor will assign a specific topic for you to research.
To prepare:
Review this week’s media presentation, as well as Chapters 6 and 8 of the Tharpe et al. text and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services article in the Learning Resources.
Research guidelines on screening procedures for the topic assigned to you by the course Instructor (e.g., guidelines on screening for domestic violence, safety, nutrition, osteoporosis, heart disease, mental health, eating disorders, thyroid disease, pap smear, mammogram, cancer, and sexually transmitted infections). Note: The course Instructor will assign a topic to you by Day 1 of this week.
Reflect on strengths and limitations of the screening guidelines.
Consider how the guidelines might support your clinical decision making.
Post an explanation of the guidelines on screening procedures for the topic assigned to you. Include an explanation of strengths and limitations of the guidelines. Then, explain how the guidelines might support your clinical decision making.

Summarize the behavioral and academic characteristics of students with ADHD.

Summarize the behavioral and academic characteristics of students with ADHD.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (or ADHD) may be defined as a brain condition that affects an individual's ability to pay attention or focus and is very common in school-aged children (American Speech Language Hearing Association, 2017). According to the U.S.Department of Education (2017), ADHD generates from a developmental failure in brain curcuitry that regulates inhibition and self-control; which results in self-regulation impairment in the individual. This condition severly impacts the child's ability to take in and process academic information.
The behaviors associated with ADHD include inattention, hyperactivity, and impusivity; which is generally more extreme than the average child of the same age (Miller, 2017). In most instances, the difference is quite noticable.
Behavioral characteristics of ADHD includes students having difficulty concentrating, having consistent unrelated thoughts, having difficulty maintaining attention, may appear to not listen, has problems learning new things, is unable to sit still, is restless, bounces from one activity to another, consistently does several things at once, does not think before acting, may not wait turn, and may outburst regularly (American Speech Language Hearing Association, 2017). ADHD is generally diagnosed after observation, interviewing, assessing, and evaluating the learner to verify that behavioral characteristics are consistent (American Speech Language Hearing Association, 2017). Further, subsequent assessments may be used to identify area of special needs
Describe three practical accommodations, not listed in the required reading that you might need to use in your classroom. Explain why you chose the three and how you would implement the accommodations.
Practical accommodations for students with ADHD should always include positive engagement. Motivating the learner towards desired outcomes helps to reduce or eliminate contention or power struggles. Other modifications may include planning ahead together with the learner, creating short-term and long-term classroom goals with the learner, and listening to and sharing information with learner towards classroom success (Helpguide.org, n.d.). The instructor should pay attention to things that may trigger a behavioral or emotional outburst in ADHD learners, find ways to creatively coalesce ADHD learner's input, and allow the ADHD student regular time-outs to re-focus or reset towards the task at hand.
The previous 3 accommodations help mitigate against major classroom disruptions, clashes, or power struggles.

Define and discuss the characteristics of emotional/behavioral disabilities (EBD)

Define and discuss the characteristics of emotional/behavioral disabilities (EBD). Emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD) maybe defined as mental, emotional, psychological, or behavioral deficits characterized by the inability to build or maintain interpersonal relationships, the inability to learn or retain academic information, consistent inappropriate feelings or behavior under normal conditions, pervasive unhappiness or depression, or developing physical symptoms and unreasonable fear associated with learning processes (Center for Parent Information and Resources, 2010). For pre-school learners, many of the preceding appear in the pre-school environment and is generally documented during an extensive assessment period (Georgia Department of Education, 2015). This helps verify that an emotional/behevaioral problem is occuring. The EBD is emotionally based and may not explained by intellectual, cultural, sensory, or general health issues (Center for Parent Information and Resources, 2010). The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has documented that approximately 8.3 million children suffer from some form of EBD (Center for Parent Information and Resources, 2010). As auch, this problem is significant in the general population.
Explain the educational implications and how IDEA plays a role in ensuring students are given the appropriate support in the classroom. EBD severely influences a student's learning processes and outctomes and includes anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, conduct disoders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and many other psychotic disorders (Center for Parent Information and Resources, 2010). This is why special needs are warranted. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act indicates that all emotional disturbances are included in special need service provisions (Center for Parent Information and Resources, 2010). Further, the IDEA defines emotional disturbance to include areas beyond emotion (Center for Parent Information and Resources, 2010). This helps to ensure that appropriate support is provided to all learners in the classroom, no matter their specific level of limitation.
Discuss any of your own personal insights and/or strategies for teaching students with EBD. What challenges have you typically found or would anticipate with teaching students with EBD? How can these challenges be mitigated? Students with EBD often do not desire to be in a classroom setting or they lack motivation to achieve in school assignments. This is why the instructor must have a clear plan and focused guidelines to implement towards learner engagement and positive academic outcomes. To facilitate this the instructor could use handouts and guided notes, encourage students to respond more frequently to prompts, use response cards, allow choral responding, and implement rewards at appropriate benchmarks (Toms & Whitewater, 2016). Ultimately, the instructor must consistently draw the EBD learners into the learning process through innovations, creativity, and positive reinforcement mechanisms.

An upcoming meeting with your new company's chief executive officer (CEO) and other executives is a great opportunity for you to share your knowledge of potentially defective products being sold to customers

An upcoming meeting with your new company's chief executive officer (CEO) and other executives is a great opportunity for you to share your knowledge of potentially defective products being sold to customers. You are not sure if others are aware of this issue, and the defective products could possibly lead to serious injuries. To complicate matters, you are uncertain about your organization’s ethical guidelines because none have been communicated.
How would you present this issue to the CEO, directors, and managers? What specific courses of action would you recommend with respect to internal actions and customer notification?
In the longer term, what can be done to ensure that a strong sense of business ethics permeates your company? Consider aspects of the organization’s structure (such as adding an oversight function) as well as supporting policies and procedures.
Answer the following questions regarding the scenario described:
How would you effectively present the issue of potentially defective products to the CEO, other directors, and managers?
How would you specifically notify customers of such an occurrence?
What kind of internal actions would you take to prevent future problems?
What can be done to ensure that a strong sense of business ethics permeates your company?

Good supply chain strategies aim to maximize return on investment, minimize supply and inventory costs, and improve service levels

Good supply chain strategies aim to maximize return on investment, minimize supply and inventory costs, and improve service levels. For this Discussion, you will focus on a specific type of medical supply and explain strategies and barriers in managing its supply chain.
Begin by selecting a medical supply to research and examine in terms of its supply chain management. This supply may be a type of drug or pharmaceutical, a medical-surgical supply (such as injection syringes), or a medical device (such as a pacemaker). For ideas on supplies to choose, see Ozcan, page 265. Identify also the health care setting and end user for which this supply is intended, such as a patient in a nursing home or outpatient clinic.
Refer to the diagram on page 264 in the Ozcan text, and think through the steps of the supply chain of this item, from the manufacturer to the end user.
Through library and other online research find out more about this supply chain, including key financial or clinical factors of this selected health care supply.
Identify in the first line of your posting the type of medical supply and end user you selected.
Briefly describe the supply chain path of this item from its source to the end user. Indicate who is, or might be, involved in an efficient, cost-effective supply chain management of this item.
Describe other financial or clinical factors that should be considered in the management of this supply, such as just-in-time inventory, or the use of GPOs.
Briefly discuss operational challenges that are posed by physician preferences for this supply, if appropriate, or for other medical supplies.
Propose one management strategy that could help address cost issues without jeopardizing quality or safety.

assume the role of a professional analyst

assume the role of a professional analyst. Choose a publicly traded U.S. company and prepare a critical analysis of the microeconomic and macroeconomic environment and challenges that the company faces. This project will provide an opportunity to apply the theories and concepts learned in the previous models to real-world problems and issues.
You must include the company background, industry, and industry structure. What is the industry? Financial? Computer? What is the industry structure? Oligopoly? Monopolistic competition? Is it regulated? Covered by EPA? What are the factor markets like? What global pressures does it face? Foreign competition? What is its cost structure (for example, fixed versus variable)? What ethical issues are present? Are there economies of scope or scale? Is it subject to business cycles? These are not the only questions to consider, and they may not all apply. They are merely examples of the types of issues to consider and analyze.
The paper should end with a conclusion regarding the long-term outlook for the company—growth, merger, bankruptcy, takeover by another company?

Theories play a vitally important role in guiding research and organizing and making sense of research findings

Theories play a vitally important role in guiding research and organizing and making sense of research findings. In spite of the great importance of theory-building and theory testing within your field of specialization, there is no generally accepted conception of what a theory is. Because your dissertation must contribute to theory, you must have a clear understanding of the variety of conceptions of theory, types of theories, and ways of contributing to theory and be able to justify how, exactly, your study contributes to theory.
Part 1
Using Gelso (2006), Harlow (2009), Wacker (1998), and five additional peer-reviewed articles from your specialization, discuss scholarly views on the nature and types of theory. Compare and contrast at least three views of what constitutes a theory, including the view you will use in Part 3 of this question. Be sure to distinguish theory from related concepts, such as hypothesis, paradigm, model, and concept.
Part 2
Using Ellis & Levy (2008), Harlow, E. (2009), and five additional peer-reviewed articles, review the scholarly literature on the relationship between theory and research and the ways research (quantitative and qualitative) can contribute to theory. Discuss at least three ways research can contribute to theory.
Part 3
Pick a theory (in one of the views of what constitutes a theory that you identified in Part 1) of current interest directly related to the topic area of your dissertation. A theory is currently of interest if there are articles published on it in the past five years. Using at least 10 published, peer-reviewed research articles:
1. Explain how the theory adds or may add to our understanding of your field and/or research topic.
2. Discuss and analyze the literature on two areas of controversy or unanswered questions related to the theory.

Michael and Sophie are a married couple with no children. Michael runs a successful menswear store while Sophie works full-time as a financial planner. In June 2011, Michael receives an offer to buy the menswear store. Michael has long desired to return to university to study and he accepts the offer and sells the business on 1 July 2011. Michael and Sophie move to Armidale in July 2011 and in July 2012, they come to you as their accountant seeking advice for their 2012 tax return. They provide the following information.
Michael operated the menswear store as a sole trader in his own name and owned the land and building in which the menswear store was located in his own name. Michael purchased the building and land on 1 September 2003 for $315,000 and established the menswear store as soon as he took ownership of the property. For the year ending June 2011, the business turnover was $850,000. While he owned the building, Michael claimed $36,375 in capital works deductions and fittings and fixtures in the shop had an adjustable value of $75,000 at 30 June 2011. The business sale price was $900,000 and this was made up of good will $50,000, trading stock $320,000, fittings and fixtures $80,000, shop and land $450,000. Sophie decided to take a break from working as a financial planner and from July 2011, she started to trade shares on the share market, using some of the proceeds of the business sale. She set up an office at home and each weekday she researched possible share sales and purchases on the internet and in various financial newspapers and magazines. Her aim was to buy shares when the price was depressed and sell when the price is inflated and make a quick profit. At 30 June 2012 Sophie has $200,000 from the business sale, plus $100,000 of borrowed funds that she has
used to purchase shares. During the period 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012, Sophie purchased 30 shares and sold 27 shares. Her total proceeds from the sale of shares is $1.5m. Share purchases for the period were $1.45m and Sophie spent $5000 on interest on the loan for share purchases, $1200 on internet and other subscriptions and $1500 in phone and office expenses.
Michael and Sophie sold their home in Adelaide on 20 July 2011 for $755,000. They had owned it since 1 August 1995 when they purchased it for $478,000. Sophie and Michael lived in the house from the time they purchased it until 1 December 2001 when Sophie was transferred overseas for her job. While they were away, the house was rented out to tenants through a real estate agency. On returning from overseas on 1 September 2003, Sophie and Michael moved back into the house where they lived until it was sold.
Michael and Sophie are both aged 42 at 1 July 2012 and have no other assets or liabilities other than those discussed.
With reference to legal authority, advise Michael and Sophie on the tax consequences of the sale of the menswear store, Sophie’s share trading activities and the sale of the house in Adelaide.

Analysis: Character, Dignity & Self-Respect - Movie "A Man for All Seasons"

Analysis: Character, Dignity & Self-Respect - Movie "A Man for All Seasons"
you will write a paper based on the themes of Character, Dignity, and Self-Respect. You will choose to view the movie A Man for all Seasons, the movie Glory, or another movie that has been approved by your instructor, and will interpret the movie and relate one or two of the movie's characters to the philosophies of Aristotle, Epictetus, and Saint Augustine.
You will relate your character selections to the following:
Aristotle: Ethics based on personal virtue.
Epictetus: Ethics based on inner strength of the individual.
Saint Augustine: Ethics based on following a Divine Command.
Aristotle
Aristotle was a student of Plato and lived from 384 to 322 B.C. His ethical theory centered on the attainment of the Good Life and on his theory of happiness. This is not the type of happiness one normally thinks about as in the statement, "I am happy." Rather, you should understand happiness as a sense of well-being or the overall quality of one's life. Yet, this "happy" life does not just happen. It is the result of specific actions and qualities.
To accomplish the Good Life one should look at the nature of action. Aristotle wrote in his book the Nicomachean Ethics that all actions have both an excess and a deficiency. Accordingly, all actions have a mean between those two extremes that is suited to a specific individual. This is a mean that is suited to us as an individual, as a member of society, and leads toward the Good Life. And, it does not have to be the same for everyone. So, how do I find the mean suited to me?
To begin, Aristotle directs us to the nature of habits and the formative influence they have in our lives. He felt that habits have an essential role. They are the creators of one's character, and ultimately one's destiny. In other words, habits produce character and character produces a destiny. And destiny is our life. And what is more interesting, he believed that if we do not like the person we have become, we have the ability to change our habits, and therefore, our character and ultimately our destiny.
In your paper, address how the characters you have selected from the movie represent Aristotelian ethics. How have they demonstrated a mean between excess and deficiency? How have they demonstrated a change in habit or character? How have they made a conscious decision to change?
Epictetus
Epictetus was a Stoic philosopher and lived from 55 A.D. to 135 A.D. This was the time of the Roman Empire and the result had been a loss of personal and ethical control over one's life as considered against the needs of the Empire. This sense of personal and intimate control over one's decisions and actions had been a part of the small Greek City-States from the time of Aristotle and had formed the basis of ethical theory. Now, the Roman Empire had created events and actions that were no longer in the control of the individual person. One simply lived at the mercy of events no longer directly connected to the individual and over which one had no control.
Thus, the Stoic philosophy concentrated on the following:
What control did a single individual have over the events in life?
Would one's personal choice even make a difference?
How can one maintain a sense of self-control and direction when I have no control over the events that happen to me?
Epictetus decided that he should control the only thing within his absolute power: His response. He believed that, while he could not control what occurred outside of himself, he could control how he responded: That was the only true freedom he had, and the source of his personal worth and dignity.
As you study the characters from the movie selection, identify those actions and scenarios that depict the philosophy of Epictetus. Ask yourself the following:
How have your characters decided to respond to their circumstances?
How have they exercised personal self-control?

St. Augustine
St. Augustine lived from 354 to 431 A.S. and authored a book titled Confessions. I think the title says it all. He is considered one of the founders of Christian Theology and his influence is felt in all aspect of our civilization. For St. Augustine, the foundation for the Good Life lies in the act of confession and the knowledge of God. He approached the ideas of dignity, character, and self-respect from a straight forward religious perspective. Meaning: We attain those personal qualities and live the Good Life through our relationship with God.
He believed that our souls are restless and cannot find character, dignity, and self-respect until they find the greatest good, and for him that would be knowledge of God. He believed that our relationship with God cannot be lost once it is attained, and no matter what befalls us we have a lasting relationship to the Greatest Good. As such, he believed that no one can take that God-given concept of self-worth from us.
As you look at the various scenarios and characters in your movie selection think about how a religious attainment of the Greatest Good or the knowledge of God inspired and motivated choices that lead to the Good Life.
As you write your paper, consider the following questions:
How have the characters you selected attained the values and virtues of the philosophers?
What obstacles did they overcome?
What hardships did they endure?
How did they demonstrate a life of character, dignity, and self-respect?
You are expected to use a minimum of 3 citations from your source reading and from the Capella University Library.
