The Theory of Change Project should be a synthesis of the intern's experiential & subjective learning via coursework, counseling experiences, and personal development as a counselor trainee. The final Project should reflect the intern's thoughtful consideration of research evidence and theoretical formulations related to the change process. The Project should clearly address the 5 areas indicated below and demonstrate the inter-relatedness of these areas. They are:
COUNSELOR - role/function of the counselor in facilitating change; person of the counselor as it relates to the therapeutic process; counselor variables that contribute to and work against client change.
CLIENT- your view of human nature, how clients construct reality; the nature of the client/counselor relationship in facilitating change; client variables that contribute to and work against change, client variables that contribute to and work for change.
THEORY- your theoretical basis for facilitating change in clients. Interns are expected to adopt an integrated theoretical formulation that reflects diverse theoretical constructs blended coherently. Include appropriate references.
INTERVENTION- the role and function of diagnosis/assessment, goal-setting, treatment planning and technique selection in facilitating client change.
CONTEXT- explain how counseling is influenced by and influences the context in which it takes place. Context here means the setting (e.g. school, agency, hospital setting) multicultural considerations (e.g. disability, gender, race and ethnicity, age), and the nature of the client-counselor contract (e.g. short-term, long-term treatment).
