The purpose of this project is to give you an opportunity to apply the performance enhancement techniques learned in the course to your own life and to develop a self-change program for YOURSELF. What is required is a mini-manual for self-change that is based on clear specification of target behaviors that you wish to change, a detailed plan for doing so, and a method for self- monitoring and graphing the target behavior(s) throughout the self-change process.
Must have the following subheadings:
- Desired performance (or behavior) change
- Goals and action plan
- Theoretical rationale of the program
- Effectiveness of the program
- Suggestions
Guidelines and requirements:
1. Pick a performance area in your life where you would like to make positive changes. It can be personal, academic, social, athletic, etc. Performance will be defined very broadly. Make this assignment one that can be of use to you and/or your group member(s).
2. Specify what you want to accomplish in goal-setting terms utilizing goal setting guidelines. Provide a detailed description of the specific action plan, with timelines specified for each element of the program. Make your goals and sub-goals realistic, and sequence them in the most reasonable fashion.
3. Provide a theoretical rationale for the specific intervention you are going to use, based on your course readings and relevant lecture material. (Let me know which one you want to use, we learned “Time management; Communication skills; Behavior modification; Creative problem solving; Goal setting; Humor therapy; cognitive restructuring; Art therapy; Music Therapy”) In other words, why, from a theoretical standpoint should the program work? What are the best psychological mechanisms to achieve these changes? (Time management; Communication skills; Behavior modification; Creative problem solving; Goal setting; Humor
therapy; cognitive restructuring; Art therapy; Music Therapy.)
4. Indicate how you are going to measure change in the target behaviors from pre-intervention baseline to the end of the program.
How will you know whether the program is working? What adjustments will you make if there is no sign of change?
5. Tips and/or suggestions that you would provide for others who might want to use your manual to manage similar problems/difficulties.
6. References (if class materials are not enough, search for additional information)
Format:
· Must be typed and stapled, full sentences, Times New Roman font, 12 point, 1 inch margins, and single spaced (extra line between paragraphs).
· Include APA style citations in the text and cited in a Reference page at the end.
