Assessment 1 Case Study Resisting Disability Epithets
You must use a minimum of five academic sources, not including your text book. Peer reviewed journal papers and textbooks and research books by reputable publishers are expected. You may select any academic, reputable sources you wish to respond to the case study question. Neither the executive summary nor the reference list will be included in the word count. In-text references will be included in the word count. Please be aware that if there is a discrepancy in your referencing, you may be asked to submit a scanned copy of one or more of your sources. Please do not cite workshop slides as a source. Retain a copy of your work in case it is lost or damaged.
Assessment Instructions
Read the short case study, 'Resisting disability epithets' available on the online course page. Using the following report format, analyse the interpersonal and organisational communication arising in the case and suggest a communication strategy to resolve the issue.
Title
Use the title of the assignment and case as a subheading.
A table of contents is not required
An executive summary (not included in the word count).
Summarise in about 100-150 words the background information about the context of Hermit Life Auto and the key communication issue or issues you have identified in the case. Include also the main points made in your analysis and any conclusions and recommendations. An executive summary should provide the reader with the key points contained in the whole report, if he or she hasn't been able to read the document in its entirety.
Introduction
Provide a brief introduction to the context and the issues in the case study. This will involve describing the company and the main parties and issues involved.
An analysis of the issues
Drawing on the literature, analyse what is happening in the case. Provide a critical commentary on the issue, how it is being managed and any implications, positive or negative for the way the issue is being communicated and handled. Reference any ideas you put forward in your analysis in order to support your argument.
Conclusion & recommendations
Summarise the key points made in your analysis and suggest what the individuals and the organisation need to do next to facilitate effective communication. Please support your recommendations by citing sources from the literature.
References (Not included in the word count).
List any references used in the text of the report using the Referencing Guide. A copy of the guidelines has been included on the online course page or can be found through the Learning and Teaching Unit webpage.
