Introduction:
Nurses must understand the policy-making process including the formation, implementation, and modification of health policy in the United States. Nurses must be able to analyze the interaction of social, political, and economic forces that shape health policies; understand the influence of public policy on organizations; understand the delivery and financing of healthcare services; demonstrate proficiency in analyzing healthcare policies; and identify ways to engage effectively in the public policy-making process. In this task you will locate a proposed healthcare legislative bill (see the attached “Healthy Policy Websites and Resources”) which, if passed, will directly impact healthcare delivery and nursing practice.
Task:
A. Analyze one healthcare legislative bill (suggested length 1–2 pages) by doing the following:
1. Predict the economic impact (e.g., costs, benefits, efficiency, cost containment) on healthcare delivery at the local, state, national, or international level if the legislative bill were enacted.
2. Evaluate how the equity of resource allocation in the current U.S. healthcare delivery model would be impacted if the legislative bill were enacted.
3. Discuss the impact on administrative resources (e.g., time, legal or regulatory issues, degree of organizational control) that could influence healthcare delivery if the legislative bill were enacted.
4. Discuss how the role of the nurse could be impacted if the legislative bill were enacted.
B. Explain why you would or would not advocate passage of the legislative bill (suggested length 1–2 pages).
C. If you use sources, include all in-text citations and references in APA format.
