1.The research element of the paper should consist of a minimum of 5 sources, not including case law. When sources are internet sources, the citation must include the website url and the date accessed.
2.Sources are to be listed alphabetically in a bibliography appendix to the paper.
3.When quoting more than three consecutive lines from a research source, the text of the quote should be formatted so that it is single-spaced, and indented:

4.Ideally, the paper will consist of research and analytical elements, but this is not to limit papers which are research-focused, rather than analytical. (Eg. Papers comparing employment standards between provinces.)
5.You may write on any topic/subject covered by the course materials during the term. This includes studying/writing ahead and knowing more about a subject than your instructor by the time we get there. There are no bonus points for embarrassing your instructor.
6.Suggested topics include:
a.Advantages and disadvantages of being employee vs. contractor, from perspective of individual and employer;
b.Terminating the employment relationship when there is just cause and when there is not. What is just cause?
c.The duty to accommodate: create a scenario, and consider the issues that would arise in that situation. Consider the impact of human rights legislation on employment;
d.Privacy before, during and at the end of en employment relationship. Social media and off-duty behaviour;
e.Impact of human rights legislation on each aspect of the employment relationship;
f.Design/develop a model employment contract for your business. Along with identifying the specific terms in the contract, include a paper describing elements of the employment contract which are implicitly in the contract, but not mentioned.
