You are requested to examine the implementation and execution of strategy in an organisation which you have chosen or been assigned to study in the light of the perspectives, frameworks, concepts and areas of debate presented during your taught sessions as well as the themes and issues arising in other management disciplines covered so far in your programme.
Your examination should critically evaluate the organisation and different aspects of the execution of its strategies. The evaluation should consider the extent to which these activities impair or facilitate the strategy adopted by that organisation.
Your discussion should be supported by relevant analysis of the hard, soft, and/or fuzzy (that is, data which is not easily classified as either had or soft) data you judge to be relevant to the task.
An indicative structure of your report could contain the following:
1.An executive summary where only the key findings and recommendations of your report are presented in no more than 150 words;
2.A clear description of the current strategy and how it has been elicited in terms of the organisations mission statement;
3.A diagnosis of the obstacles to strategy execution;
4.An examination of the process by which the organisation is translating its strategy into action;
5.An evaluation of how action is being aligned with strategy in terms of choosing the right activities, assessing strategic risk management and development of strategic performance management;
6.An assessment of how organisational designs and systems are aligned to support the strategy in terms of projects, processes, organisation structure, resource allocation, stakeholder management, roles and responsibilities, performance criteria, power reconfiguration;
7.An evaluation of the management style and the means by which it has communicated the strategy, responded to feedback from the organisation, developed the necessary change capabilities and reviewed or revised the original strategy in the face of internal and external environmental changes;
8.Your overall assessment of the areas you consider to be examples of good practice as well as those which are weak or inappropriate;
9.A set of recommendations based on your analysis.
